...a resource for potential and current users of Recorder 6 and the Collections Module.

Recorder 6 provides a powerful, standards based tool for collection and collation of biological recordings. It includes data entry, reporting and distribution mapping functionality. The platform is extensible through the development of addins and the NBN data model used is well documented, open and accessible.

Recorder 6

Recorder 6 develops on the Recorder 2000 & Recorder 2002 product widely used by field biologists in the United Kingdom. The database platform has been changed from Microsoft Access to Microsoft SQL Server, providing more robust data storage, better security and the ability to store a potentially unlimited number of observation records. In addition, improved reporting facilities, a new data import wizard and the ability to control the custodian of records are some of the many new features.

The Collections Module

When combined with the Collections Module suite of addins, Recorder is converted into a comprehensive system for maintaining records of natural history museum collections. This includes specimen, collection, storage, accessions and movements as well as many other information types. The Recorder/Collections Module combination uniquely provides a single database platform for both field based observation data and collections data. Drill through from any specimen to view the field gathering event information, the sample, the field recorders, the survey and locality information and much more.

The Collections Module enhances Recorder to enable not just species and habitat observations, but also observations of geology, palaeontology and any other required domain. To support this, a powerful Thesaurus tool is provided allowing multiple taxonomies and thesauri from any scientific domain to be maintained and interrelated.
